RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the karyotype test and myeloid panel with next-generation sequencing findings in patients with myelofibrosis, and to compare transplant characteristics in patients referred for bone marrow transplantation. METHODS: Retrospective, single-center study with patients diagnosed with myelofibrosis treated at Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein between 2010 and 2020. RESULTS: A total of 104 patients with myelofibrosis were examined. Patients who had not been submitted to tests in our service were excluded. The final sample comprised 69 patients. Of these 69, 56 were submitted to karyotyping and 22 to myeloid panel with next-generation sequencing. Karyotype was normal in 60% of the patients and altered in 40%. The prevalence of high-risk molecular mutations was higher in patients referred for bone marrow transplantation (100% versus 50%). The median follow-up of transplant patients was 2.4 years and the overall survival at 2 years was 80% (95%CI: 62-100%). CONCLUSION: The molecular analysis enables estimating the patient's risk and thus instituting more aggressive treatment such as bone marrow transplant for patients at higher risk, being a relevant tool to guide therapy. Given the significance of molecular analysis for therapeutic decision-making in myelofibrosis, collection and disclosure of data on the prevalence of cytogenetic changes and findings of next-generation sequencing in affected patients is important.

RESUMO

Objective: We aimed to describe a case of congenital microcephaly caused by Zika virus infection in a monozygotic twin pregnancy. Methods: Transfontanelle ultrasonography and cranial computed tomography revealed different lesion patterns for both twins with congenital microcephaly caused by Zika virus infection. Motor development assessments were performed using the Alberta Infant Motor Scale and the Gross and Motor Function Measure before, during, and after physiotherapy. Results: The evaluations showed differences in motor acquisition between the twins. The values in the first case were much lower than those in the second case, which showed more motor delay. Conclussion: The present study showed that despite the twins being monozygotic, the effects of neurological lesions as revealed by neuroimaging were worse in the first case, and even with two weekly rehabilitation sessions, motor development over time was considerably worse in the twin in case 1 than in the other twin.

Waterborne polyurethanes (WPUs) are interesting materials for coatings when compared to solvent-based polyurethanes, once that reducing the concentration of volatile organic compounds that are harmful for human health and the environment. However, the WPU has low weathering resistance. In order to improve this behavior among others properties, inorganic fillers has been added in these systems. SiO2 particles from various sources, mainly, from agro-industrial waste, as rice husk has attracted the scientific and technological interest. In this study, the accelerated weathering essay was performed in waterborne polyurethane (WPU)/ silica (from rice husk ash) composites in order to evaluate the thermal and physical changes in these materials. These composites were prepared by two distinct methods: in situ polymerization and blending method. The highest resistance to thermal degradation and to accelerated weathering was reached with WPU/silica composites obtained by blending method due the interactions between SiO2 particles and the polymer matrices. Blending method for preparation WPU/silica composites proved to be a simpler and faster method, with no drawback for large scale application.

Objective: to verify the use of Personal Protective Equipment by the Nursing Technicians of a Hospital Unit in a municipality in the interior of Pernambuco. Method: a descriptive, exploratory, quantitative-qualitative study carried out at the Hospital Unit of Carnaíba-PE with 20 nursing technicians. Data collection was performed through the application of a semi-structured questionnaire containing 09 questions. Data were analyzed by mean, proportion and absolute numbers in the Microsoft Excel 2007 program. Results: 20 nursing technicians were interviewed and all reported knowledge of personal protective equipment. The glove was referred to as the personal protective equipment but used and the glasses as the least use, and the mask was cited as the most uncomfortable. Conclusion: the professionals interviewed use personal protective equipment because they are aware of the unhealthy environment in which they work.
